Susan Cheney Connell

Sue was born and raised primarily in southwestern Connecticut, although she did spend some time in Milan, Tennessee as a young girl. She attended Mout Holyoke College from 1954-56 and married Thomas Hudson Connell in 1956. After various Navy postings they settled in Vernon, Connecticut and had two children.

In Vernon she worked at the Valley Falls nature preserve and with the Historical Society, illustrating their "Our Town" book used in the local schools. She was also a Justice of the Peace for several years, marrying quite a few couples, and served as Head Moderator in a number of elections. And she had a passion for the game of bridge, playing with the same neighborhood group for over 30 years.

More recently Sue spent a lot of time in Wellfleet, Massachusetts in a house across from the dump ("transfer station"). She was again involved with the local Historical Society and ran their annual house tours of interesting residences, including making hand-sketched "portraits" of each of the properties. Other favorite Cape Cod activities included birding at the Audubon Sanctuary and attending classical music concerts.

Sue has worked with several artistic media. Below are links to her pen-and-felt-tip book illustrations, grease pencil house pictures, quick life drawings, and some more exotic endeavors.
