view of robot Nano BBot

The Nano BBot is a very simple Braitenberg robot (see the book Vehicles). It has two light sensors which can be used to proportionally control the speed of its two wheels. Higher light levels speed up the wheels or, alternatively, slow them down. Using jumper wires, the sensors can be wired "straight" to each wheel, or crossed over. In addition, the whole head unit can be reattached at various angles so you can experiment with how this changes the creature's behavior. This small, hands-on "Braitenbot" lets you easily make light seekers, light avoiders, circlers, and baskers. The Nano is available fully assembled and tested, as a complete kit of parts (soldering required), or as just the bare printed circuit board and preprogrammed microcontroller chip.

Features

  • Two Light Sensors - directional visible light detection with proportional output
  • Repositionable Head - sensor pod can look forward, sideways, or upward
  • Ambient Adjustment - change the sensitivity for different environments
  • Jumper Programmable - connect each wheel to either sensor
  • Response Inversion - make the vehicle repond to "darkness" rather than light
  • Dual Wheel Drive - smooth speed control of each side of the vehicle
  • Small & Fast - less than 4" long, so several can be run in the same room
  • On-board Batteries - runs for several hours on three AAA batteries
